My name is Jarrod, and I am the fourth generation on one side of the family and the fifth generation on the other side. I started learning how to artificially inseminate cattle at the age of 12 years old and grew a passion for bovine reproduction that sparked my interest in doing artificial insemination as a career. I received a degree in animal science from Tarleton State University in 2004 and became a semen sales representative for Genex Beef in 2014. Shortly after, I went to the International Embryo Technology School where I learned the superovulation techniques, estrous synchronization methods, collection, recognition, manipulation, classification, freezing, thawing and transfer of embryos.

My wife and I married in 2017, where she joined in on the family operation. Together we started our own beef cattle artificial insemination school through Genex. We have hosted one three-day school each month since 2017 with over 550 students in attendance from 30 states and Mexico. I joined ST Genetics as a semen sales representative in 2019 where we specialize in sex-sorted semen and genomic testing.

Partnerships

Alongside our cattle services, we have had a relationship with Tarleton State University’s Meats Lab since I graduated from Tarleton in 2004. As a student, I helped process beef carcasses, and saw the value of the student side of the meat lab. Each year since, we have had their meat’s lab slaughter and process our beef. I quickly learned that choosing the university to process our beef, versus choosing one of the local processing plants, we are providing more opportunities to students to learn and grow in their passion for the beef industry. About Montford Cattle Service

Whether your operation is commercial, club calf, or pure bred, our main focus is to increase your herd’s productivity and value through a consultative approach. No doubt with an efficient reproductive plan in place, combined with an adequate nutrition, vaccination, and management program, your herd’s genetics will surely thrive.

With embryo transfer, superior genetics are multiplied. Attention is directed to the collection and processing of top quality embryos for your program, whether it is for immediate transplant or cryopreservation and storage on your farm for use or marketing at a later date. We understand every producer has different needs and expectations, and it our intent to exceed those expectations, every single time. With our mobile lab, all services are available for your convenience right on your farm. This allows the producers to use their own recipient females and keep their donor cows at home, thus reducing stress on the animal, minimizing the bio security hazards, and helping limit the overall cost of the program.

You really don’t need a bull… If artificial insemination is a fit for your operation, we listen to your priorities and can offer advice on selecting sires targeted specifically with your goals in mind be it calving ease, hefty weight gain, or breeding for replacement heifers or marketable steers. Artificial insemination using conventional or sorted/sexed semen are viable options.

Pregnancy tests at 30-days post breeding helps us maintain efficiency so we know which cows are still open. An open cow does not make money, and it is our goal to make sure you, the producer, are making money with a genetically superior calf crop every single year.
